How to convert a HDFC Bank statement to Tally

  1. Download the account statement from HDFC net banking or the mobile app for the period you want, as PDF or Excel. Excel or CSV is the most reliable when available.
  2. Load it in Step 1 above. If the PDF is password-protected, enter the password; the email or download page from HDFC explains its format.
  3. In Step 2, enter your Tally company name and the HDFC bank ledger name exactly as it appears in Tally.
  4. Review the entries in Step 3, change any suggested ledgers, then download the vouchers XML and ledger masters XML.
  5. Import the ledger masters file and then the vouchers file into TallyPrime with Alt+O (Import).

Columns in a typical HDFC statement

Layouts vary by account type and by how the statement is downloaded. A typical HDFC statement has these columns, and the converter maps them like this:

HDFC columnUsed as
DateVoucher date
NarrationVoucher narration
Chq./Ref.No.Ignored
Value DtIgnored
Withdrawal Amt.Payment or Contra amount
Deposit Amt.Receipt or Contra amount
Closing BalanceBalance check

HDFC narrations often run onto a second line in the PDF. The converter joins them back into one narration.

Narrations the converter recognises

Transfer codes such as NEFT, RTGS, IMPS and UPI are kept in the narration so you can identify the party. ATM withdrawals and cash deposits are posted to Cash as Contra vouchers, and bank charges, interest, GST, TDS, rent and salary entries get a matching ledger suggestion. Anything else posts to the ledger you choose for unmatched entries.

Questions

Does it work with the HDFC e-statement sent by email?

Yes. Load the PDF and enter its password when asked. The password stays in your browser.

My HDFC statement is in XLS format.

Load the XLS file directly. The converter skips the account details above the table and finds the header row automatically.

Is this an official HDFC Bank tool?

No. It is an independent converter that reads the statement format. It is not affiliated with HDFC Bank or Tally Solutions.
